Frequently asked questions

  • We no longer convert tapes to USB. We only convert to DVD. Customers found that without lowering the quality of the video, the files were so large, as to cause computer issues. DVDs get around this issue by essentially ‘streaming’ the video as it plays, rather than pre-loading the entire file into memory as a USB version would do.

  • Our technicians do not make judgment calls regarding the importance of video, even a few seconds of video. So if there is video at all, it will be converted. It is also possible that your tape is partially damaged. Richmond Camera does not perform tape repairs.

  • we do not offer a timestamp service. Instead, our equipment converts the tape in its entirety, starting at the beginning, and recording until the tape appears to be blank going forward.

  • We do not offer video editing services, such as color grading, splicing, transitions, etc.

  • We do not make judgment calls as to the importance of your video. Therefore, we convert the video as is. Regardless of the condition/quality/content of the original tape, our equipment and technicians still expend the same amount of time and care on your order. Therefore, we do not offer refunds for footage converted.

  • If you have a computer, software, and the knowledge to do so, there is nothing in our DVD format that prevents you from converting to a MOV file, MPG file, etc. However this is not a service that Richmond Camera offers.

  • In the past, we had unlimited dropoffs, but this resulted in incredibly inconsistent turnaround times, and created numerous costly issues with our workflow when larger orders would be dropped off. We found that the right amount to keep things moving quickly and in a more organized manner, was 3 tapes per customer at a time. We appreciate your patience, if you need to make multiple dropoffs.

  • No, to do so, we would estimate we would have to multiply our prices by 5x not just because of labor, but also lost revenue on other services that could have been done during that time.
