IN-house sensor cleanings

$75 / Camera

Camera Battery must be fully charged to 100% before dropoff, no exceptions.

Do you have a DSLR or mirrorless camera that needs its sensor cleaned? Richmond Camera’s sensor cleaning specialist has cleaned thousands of sensors, and has more experience than anyone in the Richmond Virginia area! Turnaround time: 3-4 Business Days.

A sensor cleaning resolves the issue of ‘spots’ in your digital files that are always in the same place, regardless of lens used. It does not correct error messages, focusing issues, etc. A sensor cleaning is not akin to a repair.

Richmond Camera is not responsible for any item left with us for more than 90 calendar days.

Frequently asked questions

  • Neither is required for a sensor cleaning, but if you choose not to leave a lens attached, please attach a body cap to keep dust from entering the camera body once it’s been cleaned.

  • Unfortunately, our specialist has a workload that does not allow for sensor cleanings to be done while you wait.

  • We do test the camera’s sensor after each cleaning. Occasionally, we will need to make multiple cleaning passes, but the customer is not charged for the additional materials/time used.

  • Although we only see this roughly 2-3% of the time, it is possible that dust/debris has worked its way under a low-pass filter, or via another means, and would need to be handled by the camera manufacturer as a repair. We cannot tell whether this is the case until we have completed the sensor cleaning.

  • That most likely means that dust/debris is on the mirror. There are other potential culprits, but the mirror is most likely. If we find this to be the case, we will attempt to clean the mirror, but cannot guarantee that debris on the mirror can be removed.

  • We do not disassemble any lenses in-store for cleaning. A small amount of dust inside a lens is very typical and rarely causes issues in images. We recommend that you occasionally clean the front lens element, and we do sell cleaning supplies in our store. We also recommend using protective filters on your lenses.

  • We do not ship the camera back to you. It must be picked up in-store.
