FILM DEVELOPMENT

LIMIT: 3 ROLLS AT A TIME, PER CUSTOMER/household

(turnaround 4-6 weeks)

Do you have rolls of 35mm film or 120/220 film that need to be developed? Richmond Camera has over 80 years experience of handling your film for you! For film development, we partner with a lab for a premium service in which ALL ORDERS come with high-resolution digital files, AND your original ROLL of UNCUT negatives returned! Simply drop off your film at our Carytown location, and let us take care of the rest for you. Please note that we do work with a partner lab, meaning that the darkroom piece of the process is not handled in-house, although the high resolution scanning IS done in-house.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • No, we do not ship orders from our store. Orders need to be picked up in-person.

  • Yes, they are simply a roll of 35mm film inside, and we will remove it for you. Pricing is the same as if you had dropped off a roll of film. Note: if the disposable camera has ‘Seattle Filmworks’ listed on it, that film cannot be processed.

Note: The plastic ‘case’ from a disposable camera is NOT returned to you once it’s processed. However, you always receive your original negatives.

  • As film ages, the colors will shift, the contrast will fade away, and tones can shift (towards magenta, for example). Once undeveloped film is 10 years old, the effects are usually very noticeable, but deterioration usually begins far sooner. We do not make major color corrections to such film, but may be able to offer that to you as a Restoration Service.

  • If your roll is blank, you will be charged a lesser fee of $8.00 for such rolls. This covers part of the shipping, developing process/chemicals, etc. A blank roll is typically due to camera issues, film issues, etc. In these cases, we still return the original negatives, so you can see that they were indeed blank.

  • Previously, Richmond Camera allowed unlimited dropoffs, and this was a poor experience for everyone involved, as not only did those large orders slow down all of our customers getting their orders back, but the customer with 20-30 rolls took months, a time period that Richmond Camera does not want to remain responsible for that original film on premises. We found that three (3) rolls was the ideal number to prevent larger orders clogging the process. If you have a large number of rolls to develop, and do not want to make multiple trips to Richmond Camera, we humbly appreciate your desire to use our services, but our workflow and thresholds are not setup for those larger bulk orders.
