Mirrorless cameras are probably the most significant change in digital camera equipment since digital cameras first entered the consumer market years ago. Spearheaded by companies such as Olympus, Fujifilm, Panasonic, and Sony, now almost every manufacturer has switched to this new evolution of the camera, including Nikon and Canon.

Mirrorless cameras offer MANY improvements.

• As you can tell by their name, they no longer have mirrors to reflect the incoming image into a viewfinder. Eliminating the mirror elements means the cameras are lighter, smaller, and quieter!

• But even more importantly, this means the new viewfinders are electronic (not optical), so that you can SEE what the photo will look like BEFORE you take the photo, rather than afterwards.

DSLR cameras have been around since the Canon Digital Rebel was introduced more than 20 years ago. They are fast, simple, and many still love the optical viewfinder of a DSLR.

However, few DSLRs are still being manufactured today, as the bulk of camera gear on store shelves will be mirrorless items. Lenses, however, are not in quite as short supply, but still not as available as the mirrorless lenses. One exception is a larger supply of high-quality Tamron lenses for the Nikon and Canon DSLR systems.

DSLRs remain a very affordable way to enter the hobby/art/business of photography, albeit more difficult to find in stock, as each day passes.
