In the fall of 2017, Richmond Camera began carrying two fantastic products: the Three Legged Thing tripods and Tenba’s BYOB (build your own bag) bag system. Both of these items have innovative design features making them some of the most versatile products on the market. I have been using Tenba’s BYOB since last year, and it has offered me a way to carry my equipment in any bag I see fit, from their messenger bag cover to a backpack. The Three Legged Tripod is new to me. I needed something that would have a high working height, but also be able to shoot at extreme angles and close to the ground.
Three Legged Thing was founded Danny Lenihan in 2010 and his goal was to create the benchmark for camera supports. When looking for a new tripod, a few things to consider are weight capacity, build materials, and compactness. What I am currently using is a tripod in the “Punks” line, the Billy, to be precise.
This tripod is carbon fiber, weighs 3 pounds, and has a max working height of 65 inches. The Billy can also get low, with a minimum working height of 4 inches. With a max weight capacity of 40lb, it offers class-leading stability. The center column is removable for extreme working angles, and one leg will convert into a monopod.
The supplied head comes loaded with features and multiple bubble levels help you get a stable and level shot. The plates are compatible with Arca Swiss and Peak Design products. It gives the user a lot of options without taking up additional space.
Richmond Camera carries the Punks line and the Equinox Leo. These models offer the best of what Three Legged Thing has to offer. Stop in to either the Carytown Richmond Camera or Richmond Camera on Patterson Ave to see them in person.
The Tenba BYOB offered me a versatile bag system to adapt to everyday life. I am able to carry it by hand fully loaded with ease.
Slip it into its water resistant messenger bag. Or drop it into a day pack for a long hike.
All of the BYOB’s come with multiple dividers to accommodate different items. Using a velcro system, you easily organize to fit your needs. I am able to stack things easily and adapt on the fly. Here, I have mine loaded with a film camera, film, and an extra lens. The outer shell is easily stored in the bag itself.
Richmond Camera carries four sizes of BYOB’s and their matching shell cases. We also stock a variety of other Tenba accessories that will work with the BYOB system, which include: items for battery and memory card storage, cable and flash management cases, and cases for flash transmitters. Stop in to your local Richmond Camera to check out Tenba’s BYOB eco system.
Happy shooting!
