RF 24mm 1.8 Macro IS STM Lens

$599.00

Overview: The Canon RF 24mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM lens (5668C002) is compatible with the EOS R-series mirrorless cameras. This wide angle/macro prime lens is compact and lightweight, and has a bright f/1.8 aperture that performs well in low-light situations. Built-in optical image stabilization makes your handheld performance more reliable. The 24mm lens can be used with full-frame and APS-C cameras, and is ideal for capturing closeups, and shooting landscapes, interiors, and videos.

Lens Construction: The lens is constructed of 11 lens elements in 9 groups, including one UD (Ultra-low Dispersion) lens and one Aspherical lens. The special elements provide high image quality across the full frame. Canon adds their Super Spectra Coating to eliminate ghosting and flaring.

12-pin Communication: Canon RF-series lenses feature a 12-pin communication system between the camera and the lens (compared to 8 pins for the EF-series). The 12-pin system provides faster AF, enhanced image stabilization, and optimized image quality. The additional data channels are also used for the in-camera Digital Lens Optimizer (DLO) which uses built-in memory capacity to correct aberrations.

Optical Image Stabilization (IS): The RF 24mm F1.8 Macro IS STM lens features built-in Optical Image Stabilization for blur-free images and more reliable performance in low-light situations. Engaging the Image Stabilization (via the 2-way switch on the lens barrel) provides enhanced shake reduction for up to 5.5 stops, compared to no stabilization. That means you don't have to increase the ISO or decrease the shutter speed, or rely on a tripod, to get the shot. When paired with an EOS R-series camera that has In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS), the Coordinated IS shake reduction is increased to 6.5 stops of correction. When shooting with a tripod, you should turn off Image Stabilization.

Macro: The RF 24mm lens is designed for working on subjects as close as 5-1/2 inches to capture minute details. The lens has a maximum magnification of 0.5x, giving you close-up 1:2 half life-size macro photos with excellent results. It is recommended that the camera's AF operation is set to Servo AF when taking close-up shots.

Control Ring: The outer Control Ring can be assigned the functions that are commonly used with cameras, such as shutter speed, aperture, and exposure compensation settings. The camera's manual can provide instructions on the control ring's function. The ring features a "click" action when turned to give you a sense of the degree the ring is being rotated. The clicking sensation is loud enough that it could be recorded while shooting movies. The "click" sensation can be removed (for a fee) by sending it to a Canon Service Center.

Focusing Ring: The inner Focusing Ring can be rotated to manually focus on your subject. The focusing ring is electronic instead of mechanical in nature. You can choose the Focus Mode via the AF/MF (Auto Focus/Manual Focus) switch on the lens barrel.

Stepping Motor (STM): The RF 24mm lens is equipped with a Lead Screw-type Stepping Motor (STM) focus drive system. The Stepping Motor rotates the lead screw to move the focus lens during Auto Focusing. The STM provides a smooth and quiet focus performance, especially for video shooting.

Circular 9-blade Aperture: The lens features a circular 9-blade aperture that presents a pleasant out-of-focus background blur (bokeh) to help your subject stand out in your photos.

Optional Filters: The RF 24mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM lens has a 52mm mounting thread on the front of lens for attaching screw-on type filters.

Optional Lens Hood and Case: Canon offers the optional EW-65B petal-shaped lens hood which is designed to block sunlight or other light sources to prevent glare and lens flare, and to protect the lens from scratches and the weather. Also available from Canon is the LP1016 lens pouch to protect the lens when it's not in use. No extension tubes or lens extenders are compatible.
