More than mirrorless.
Nikon mirrorless.

Our vision has always been to create cameras and lenses that capture more light. More light means more detail. More speed. More possibilities. The Z 7 brings that vision to life (and then some). Combining the advantages of a lightweight mirrorless design, a revolutionary new full-frame lens mount and matched lenses, a Nikon designed 45.7MP image sensor and seamless integration with Nikon’s DSLR system—including the NIKKOR lenses you love—the Z 7 is a camera unlike any before it. And yet, it’s unmistakably a Nikon. This is mirrorless reinvented.

FEELS LIKE A NIKON

As comfortable and familiar
as an old friend.

Streamlined, Familiar Ergonomics

At home in your hands.

A deep grip design and balanced weight feel great with both NIKKOR Z and F-mount NIKKOR lenses and the Mount Adapter FTZ adapter. Buttons and dials are comfortably placed - features like the sub-selector and AF-On button are in the same position as the D850. Unmistakably Nikon.

26% Lighter

Big Performance. Small Footprint.

One of the major benefits of the Z7's thin 16mm flange back distance is the cameras can be made smaller and lighter. The Z7 is 26% lighter than the D850, yet it maintains outstanding handling and balance, even when using telephoto F-Mount NIKKOR lenses. It's as comfortable to carry as it is to shoot with

Magnesium Alloy Body

Flagship Nikon Durability.

A skeleton forged from ultra-strong magnesium alloy, the same material used in the D850 and D5 for its extreme durability and incredible strength-to-weight ratio. The same brake mechanism and shutter blade material used in the D850, tested 200,00 cycles while actually loaded in the camera. The Z7 is ready for the field.

Extensive Weather Sealing

The forecast is: it doesn't matter.

Like the D850 and other high-end Nikon DSLRs, the Z7 is extensively weather sealed against dust and moisture, as are NIKKOR Z lenses and the Mount Adapter FTZ. No need to baby this camera.

NEW NIKKOR Z LENSES

The next generation of NIKKOR glass.

Empowered by the larger Z Mount and shorter 16mm flange focal distance, NIKKOR Z lenses gather more light and break traditional rules of the "sweet spot". Forget about stopping down for maximum sharpness—NIKKOR Z are at their best and deliver corner-to-corner sharpness even at their widest aperture.

493-POINT HYBRID AF SYSTEM

Focus on what matters.

493-POINT ON-SENSOR PDAF

The points of the story.

493* on-sensor AF points cover 90% of the frame (approx.) horizontally and vertically. Subjects are acquired quickly when they enter the frame and tracked throughout the frame, even to the far edges.

*435 on-sensor PDAF when used for video in FX-based movie format with Single-Point AF.

NEW HYBRID AUTOFOCUS

The best of both worlds.

Using an AF algorithm optimized for its FX-format sensor, Z 7automatically switches between focal-plane phase-detect AF and contrast-detect AF to fine-tunefocus. The light-shielding phase detection pixels are carefully arranged on the sensor to preserve light, ensuring accurate AF even in dim lighting.

NEW SUBJECT TRACKING

Follow a face in the crowd.

Whether shooting eye-level with the EVF or in Live View with the LCD, Auto Area AF smoothly tracks your subject's face—even when it’s one among many. The system pays attention to the upper body, too, maintaining focus position when your subject briefly turns away from the camera or moves out of view.

PURE VIEWING EXPERIENCE

Just like the real thing.

NEW 3.6M-DOT QUAD VGA VIEWFINDER

Oh, what a view.

Take an ultra-high resolution QUAD VGA display, add Nikon optics for magnification, including Aspherical lens elements and Fluorine coating, and you’ve got an EVF experience unlike any before it. Minimal lag and blackout, 100% frame coverage (approx.), corner-to-corner clarity and sharp magnification. It has the feel of an optical viewfinder, and you can use it for both stills and videos.

NEW ICON-DRIVEN INFO DISPLAY

Keep your eye on the prize.

All relevant info is displayed out of the way and is easy on the eyes. A new customizable menu appears right inside the viewfinder, so you can quickly adjust settings without ever taking your eye off the shot. Focus modes, white balance, exposure, VR settings, Picture Controls, and more—all within eye’s reach. Preview exposure and white balance changes, image stabilization and depth-of-field in real time. You can even review the photo or video you just shot.

IN-BODY VR IMAGE STABILIZATION

Steady as it goes.

UP TO 5 STOPS OF VR IMAGE STABILIZATION

Rock steady. Tack sharp.

Powerful in-body 5-axis VR image stabilization is applied to whatever NIKKOR Z lens you’re using. Up to five stops* of image stabilization in up to five directions—yaw, pitch, roll, X and Y. During video recording, optical VR is combined with electronic VR (e-VR) for even steadier shots. Normal VR mode for static subjects. Sports VR for moving subjects.

*Based on CIPA Standards. This value is achieved when the NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4 S lens is attached, with zoom set at the maximum telephoto position.

VR FOR F-MOUNT NIKKOR LENSES

Your favorite lenses now have VR*.

For the first time, F-Mount NIKKOR lenses like the AF-S NIKKOR 105mm f/1.4E ED or AF-S NIKKOR14-24mm f/2.8G ED can benefit from in-body 3-axisVR. NIKKOR lenses that already have VR, like the AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8E FL ED VR, get the added benefit of roll axis for a total of 3-axis VR. Just add the optional Mount Adapter FTZ and you’re good to go.

*Requires use of the Mount Adapter FTZ

PORTABLE CINEMATIC POWERHOUSE

Made for video.

FULL FRAME 4K ULTRA HD

Amazing productions start here.

Capture cinematic 16:9 4K UHD/30p video in full-frame using the total width and resolution of the Z 7’s backside-illuminated sensor. Clean output at high ISO. Zero crop factor with full-frame NIKKOR Z and F-Mount NIKKOR lenses. Full-pixel readout in DX Mode for sharper 4K footage with rich information equivalent to 5K. Focus Peaking in both 4K and 1080p recording. Simultaneous 8MP stills*. This is 4K as it was meant to be.

*During 4K recording

8K Time-Lapse

Travel Through Time.

Like the D850, the Z7 is a time-lapse machine. Shoot up to 9,999 full resolution stills with no shutter vibration wising the Interval Timer, then combine them into one 8K movie with 3rd party software. Create 4K time-lapse sequences right in the camera with exposure smoothing and extended low-light metering range - great for star trails and light painting.

New 10-Bit HDMI Output

Smoother, richer post processing.

What's the difference between 8-bit and 10-bit recording? Only about 1 billion more colors (64x more data) - so much more flexibility in post processing. Record directly to an optional external recorder with 10-bit output via HDMI, the industry standard. Simultaneously record uncompressed 8-bit 4K UHD movie files to the memory card and an external recorder. (Atomos open protocol supported for syncing start/stop.)

Smooth, Quiet AF

Even more powerful for videos.

The speed, smoothness, and accuracy of the Z7's AF system is ideal for video. It's virtually silent, very little chance it will be picked up by an external mic. When used with NIKKOR Z lenses, "breathing" and "wobbling" are all but eliminated. You can even tough to foucs using the LCD for fast transitions between subjects.

Four AF-Area Modes

Focus pulling optional.

Four AF-area modes for videos: Single-Point AF, Wide-Area AF (S or L) and Auto-Area AF. Seamless automatic switching between Phase Detect and Contrast Detect AF based on the situation. Mimic focus pulling techniques by controlling when AF starts and stops in AF-C mode using AF speed and AF tracking sensitivity options.

New N-Log with View Assist

Maximum detail, viewable in-camera.

Nikon's N-LOG format preserves more detail, up to 12 stops of dynamic range, shadows and highlights to make color grading more precise in post. For easier spot checking focus and exposure, the new View Assist function displays simple gradation compensation, highly useful for confirming the final look of the footage.

New Built-in Time-Code

Shot lists made easy.

All of your Z7 footage can be time-coded in-camera for easier synchronizing and logging, especially when editing shots from multi-camera shoots.

Slow Motion Videos

Secrets revealed.

Capture every detail of movement with 120 FPS. Then play them back at 30, 25, or 24 FPS for jaw-dropping, fluid slow motion in 1080p High Definition.

HD TILTING TOUCHSCREEN

A feast for the eyes.

2.1 Million-Dot Tilting Touchscreen

Brilliant. Bright. Stunning.

The beautiful high-resolution touchscreen is as sharp and clear as a smartphone. 3.2-inches. 2.1 million dots. Crystal clear and vibrant. Tilt for shooting at high and low angles. Touchscreen control. This display is a smooth operator.

Full Touch Operation

Like using a smartphone.

Nikon takes touchscreen control to the next level. touch to focus. Pinch to zoom. Touch to fire the shutter. Swipe through photos and videos. Navigate settings as easy as navigating a smartphone/ Pinch to magnify the image on-screen to check for critical sharpness. We're living in a touchscreen world, and this is a touchscreen camera.

New Improved GUI Design

Sharper, clearer menus.

Totally familiar for a Nikon DSLR shooter, fast and intuitive for someone new to the Nikon system. Z7's menus and user interface are elegant, clear, and easy to navigate with touch control. Easily add your favorite functions to the (i) menu - over 30 settings available - then access them from the LCD or EVF.

ULTIMATE IMAGE QUALITY

Create your masterpiece with ours.

NEW Z MOUNT

A breakthrough in optical design.

17% larger internal diameter than Nikon's acclaimed F-Mount. Wider than any full-frame mount available*. It totally changes what’s possible with lens design. Enhanced low-light performance. Even illumination from corner-to-corner.Maximum apertures as wide as f/0.95. Faster data transfer between camera and lens. This is the ideal balance between mount diameter, large image sensor and flange focal distance.

*As of 8/23/18

9 FPS SHOOTING

The speed to succeed.

Shoot up to 9 FPS at full resolution (12-bit RAW or JPEG) with minimal shooting noise* and without the need for an external battery pack. For complete silence, switch to Silent Mode and shoot up to 8 FPS with no mechanical noise.

*If an F-Mount NIKKOR lens is used with the Mount Adapter FTZ, aperture, VR driving and initial lens driving sounds may occur, for instance, when turning on the camera.

ISO 64 (EXPANDABLE TO ISO 32)

Lower sensitivity. Greater sensibility.

Increased light capture means you can shoot at lower sensitivity more often. And the lower the sensitivity, the greater the detail, color range and contrast.

ISO 25,600 (EXPANDABLE TO 102,400)

Cloak yourself in darkness.

More light gathering potential, flawless EXPEED 6 noise reduction and new NIKKOR Z lenses free you to explore the darker side of light with entirely new brilliance.
